Leonard Myers (November 13, 1827 – February 11, 1905) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania during the American Civil War and the early years of Reconstruction.

Biography

Leonard Myers was born in Attleboro, Pennsylvania (now Langhorne, Pennsylvania). He attended the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia and studied law, but did not earn a degree.

He was major of the Ninth Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia, during the emergency service of September 1862 when Pennsylvania felt threatened by Robert E. Lee during the Maryland Campaign.

He was elected to Congress as a Republican in 1862. He successfully contested the election of John Moffet to the 41st Congress. He was reelected in 1868 and served until March 3, 1875. He served as Chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs (42nd United States Congress), United States House Committee on Patents (42nd Congress), and United States House Committee on Private Land Claims (43rd United States Congress). He was defeated in 1874.

LEONARD MYERS Handwritten letter outlining his Congressional career Autograph Letter signed: "Leonard Myers", 1 page, 5x8. Philadelphia, 1873 May 22. To C. A. McCullough, New York City, in full: "I was first elected to Congress in October 1862 and took the seat in December 1873 [pencil correction: 1863]. This was the 38th Congress and I have been elected to each Congress since, in all six times. Very truly yours". Leonard Myers (1827-1905), a Republican, represented his Pennsylvania district in the US Congress from 1863 to 1875. The six terms he cites here are all he served, as he was defeated for re-election in 1874. The long delay between his first election and the taking of his seat was occasioned by Confederate General Robert E. Lee's second incursion into Pennsylvania, culminating in the Battle of Gettysburg. Myers served as a major of Pennsylvania militia during this emergency. Multiple mailing folds. Fine condition. - Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. Leonard Bernstein (20th Century Composers)
Leonard Bernstein (20th Century Composers)
This is an illustrated biography of the American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. Despite international fame and success, he was a man constantly struggling with inner conflicts. The best loved and most successful conductor of his generation, also a virtuoso pianist, he was adored by an international public, but suffered years of hostile criticism from the New York press. An inspiration to fellow American musicians, he was the first native American to direct a major American orchestra, and the first to conquer Europe (conducting the Vienna Philharmonic and at La Scala, Milan). His conducting style was famously flamboyant, yet he possessed a rare ability to communicate his music to the listener, who was often held spellbound. But Bernstein often dismissed conducting for its temporary character, and declared himself to be primarily a composer. Among other musicals, Bernstein wrote the world-famous West Side Story (1957), and the moving score to the film On the Waterfront, but he never enjoyed unanimous critical acclaim for his serious classical works, such as Chichester Psalms and Mass. In later years he feared that he would be remembered solely for his musicals.

Narrative of a Mountain Man: James Clyman’s Description of a Trapping Expedition up the Missouri and through the Rocky Mountains, 1824-29 (1871)
Narrative of a Mountain Man: James Clyman’s Description of a Trapping Expedition up the Missouri and through the Rocky Mountains, 1824-29 (1871)
James or Jim Clyman (1792 – 1881) was a mountain man and an explorer and guide in the American Far West. While collecting his pay in Saint Louis in 1823, he met William H. Ashley, and joined Ashley's 1823 expedition.Clyman was with Ashley's men from 1823 to 1827. He fought the Arikara Indians in the Arikara War in 1823. He also traveled with Jedediah Smith and Thomas Fitzpatrick in the discovery of the South Pass. He also was a member of the party of four that paddled around the Great Salt Lake and put to rest the myth of the Buenaventura River. After his explorations, he bought a farm near Danville, Illinois, and also set up a store there. Then, the Blackhawk War broke out and Clyman joined the fight. After the war, he traveled back West and crossed the Great Salt Lake Desert and the Sierra Nevada. On his way back, he met the Donner-Reed Party and accompanying parties and advised them to avoid this shortcut and remain on the regular route instead. They did not heed his warning and ended up cannibalizing many members of their parties after reaching the Sierra Nevada. In 1848, Clyman settled in the Napa Valley. This narrative originally written by the author in 1871 has original misspellings by the author.

Tears In The Rain
Tears In The Rain
BOOK DESCRIPTION Humans have survived through the millennia largely because of the virtually unbreakable bond that naturally exists between mothers and their children. Research has revealed that, given the choice, even the most abused and neglected children are desperate to remain with their mothers. But, what happens when this bond is interrupted, manipulated and intentionally broken by a vengeful, narcissistic father consumed with revenge and intent on destroying his ex-spouse? What happens when a child caught in a toxic divorce is used as a weapon to destroy her own mother? “Tears In The Rain” is a story of revenge and redemption. It is a story of a mother’s heartbreak and of a teenage girl’s struggle to survive the debilitating stress of the manipulation that leads her to despise her own mother but, driven by guilt and depression ultimately seeks relief through suicide. It is a story of a broken mother’s desperate attempt to survive and save her child while a sympathetic forensic psychologist, two police detectives, and a shadowy group called “Echo” work along the edges of the law to protect the child from both herself and the repeated abuse of her predatory father. “Tears In The Rain” is a novel based on factual events. It is one tragic story among thousands that every year fly under the radar and are neglected by the very institutions mandated to protect vulnerable children. READERS' COMMENTS * “I couldn’t put it down for a whole day. It’s almost like it was word for word what happened to me 6 years ago…Thank you for giving me such insight.”…..Karey Q. * “This book is a blockbuster! Could not put it down. It speaks so much to how the nervous system works”……Richard T.
