History

Following her performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" during the Super Bowl, Houston decided to carry it over into a concert to honor the troops, their families, and military and government dignitaries in honor of those returning from the Gulf War. The concert was broadcast live on HBO. The cable network agreed to unscramble its signal allowing it to be available to over 50 million cable households. The concert was open to only 3,100 people, all of whom were either military personnel or their families. The show won a Cable ACE award for "Performance music special" in 1992.

Khandi Alexander was the choreographer for Whitney Houston's several World Tours from 1988–1992, including the choreography for Whitney Houston's 1991 HBO televised concert, 'Welcome Home Heroes', for the USA soldiers fighting in the Persian Gulf War and their families. (See: Smith, Patricia. "Mom, apple pie and Whitney Houston in concert for troops". The Boston Globe April 1, 1991.)

I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston
I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston
The legacy of Whitney Houston, one of music's most beloved singers, continues with the November 13 release of I Will Always Love You The Best of Whitney Houston (RCA). Leading the way is the Clive Davis produced track "I Look To You," a brand new duet version featuring previously unreleased vocals by Whitney and newly recorded vocals by R. Kelly. Grammy Award winner R. Kelly wrote and produced the original version from Houston's last studio album of the same name. "The duet version of 'I Look To You' between Whitney and R. Kelly is purely and simply a knockout. I believe that everyone will remember the first time they heard it and I think a new classic is being born," states Clive Davis, the album s producer and Chief Creative Officer, Sony Music Entertainment Worldwide.I Will Always Love You The Best of Whitney Houston will also include "Never Give Up," another never before released song by Houston; written by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox and Johnta Austin and produced by Dupri and Cox. Rounding out this first ever single disc greatest hits collection are the original versions of the chart topping, award winning hit songs that solidified Houston as "The Voice," including "I Will Always Love You," "Saving All My Love For You," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," and more.

Whitney Houston: An Unauthorized Biography
Whitney Houston: An Unauthorized Biography
She still wondered, "Am I good enough? Am I pretty enough? Will they like me?" It was the burden that made her great and the part that caused her to stumble in the end. If you could hear me, "no" I would tell you, you weren't just good enough, you were great. — Kevin Costner We all read the same stories and found ourselves believing the rumors. The stories of drug use and drunken nights out, her problems with money and marriage, and even those about how much Kevin Costner despised working with her on the film, The Bodyguard, because of her diva-like ways. But quotes like the one above, along with everything else Kevin Costner shared about his friendship with Whitney Houston, can't help but make you wonder just how misunderstood she really was. This book takes you full circle through Whitney Houston's life, starting with her first solo in her mother's choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey to her funeral in that very same church. Every page will give you more and more insight into the tragic superstar, leaving you with an understanding of just how incredible she was, even when the tabloids were declaring otherwise.

Whitney Houston: 1963-2012: We Will Always Love You
Whitney Houston: 1963-2012: We Will Always Love You
Following the tragic and sudden death of Whitney Houston, author James Robert Parish's updated biography takes a look at the amazing career of the superstar and her tumultuous lifeWhitney Houston burst onto the international music scene in 1985 with her début album, winning a Grammy Award for the single "Saving All My Love For You." After that, the acclaimed artist released only a limited amount of new material, yet her preeminence in the industry and her enormous popularity with music fans was unwavering. This comprehensive biography reflects on the extraordinary journey which took the controversial personality from a problematic childhood in a broken New Jersey home, to becoming the talented protégée of powerful Arista producer Clive Davis, to the height of her diva days mired with peculiar behavior and drug abuse. Parish explains how the shy, pretty young girl from a devoutly religious background turned into the subject of lurid tabloid gossip, much of it concerning her turbulent relationship with Bobby Brown, and pays tribute to her incredible talent and legacy.
