Stop Feeding Your Cancer: One Doctor's Journey
Click Here to view in augmented reality
The link between animal protein and cancer became global news with the publication of an international lab study a decade ago. The facts were startling: a diet rich in animal and dairy products was shown to stimulate cancer cell growth. But the conventional medical institutions apparently overlooked the obvious. Counteracting the disease by promoting an animal-protein-free diet could be a revolutionary step in cancer recovery. One visionary Dublin doctor chose to investigate the realities of the alternative approach to cancer treatment in a trial conducted with his own patients. What he learned may change our view of cancer forever.

Never Surrender: Winston Churchill and Britain's Decision to Fight Nazi Germany in the Fateful Summer of 1940

“WWII scholar John Kelly triumphs again” (Vanity Fair) in this remarkably vivid account of a key moment in Western history: The critical six months in 1940 when Winston Churchill debated whether England should fight Nazi Germany—and then decided to “never surrender.”London in April, 1940, is a place of great fear and conflict. The Germans have taken Poland, France, Holland, Belgium, and Czechoslovakia. The Nazi war machine now menaces Britain, even as America remains uncommitted to providing military aid. Should Britain negotiate with Germany? The members of the War Cabinet bicker, yell, and are divided. Churchill, leading the faction to fight, and Lord Halifax, cautioning that prudence is the way to survive, attempt to usurp one another by any means possible. In Never Surrender, we feel we are alongside these complex and imperfect men, determining the fate of the British Empire, and perhaps, the world. Drawing on the War Cabinet papers, other government documents, private diaries, newspaper accounts, and memoirs, historian John Kelly tells the story of the summer of 1940. Kelly takes readers from the battlefield to Parliament, to the government ministries, to the British high command, to the desperate Anglo-French conference in Paris and London, to the American embassy in London, and to life with the ordinary Britons. We see Churchill seize the historical moment and ultimately inspire his government, military, and people to fight. Kelly brings to life one of the most heroic moments of the twentieth century and intimately portrays some of its largest players—Churchill, Lord Halifax, Hitler, FDR, Joe Kennedy, and others. Never Surrender is a fabulous, grand narrative of a crucial period in World War II and the men and women who shaped it. “For lovers of minute-by-minute history, it’s a feast” (Huffington Post).

The Graves Are Walking: The Great Famine and the Saga of the Irish People

A magisterial account of one of the worst disasters to strike humankind--the Great Irish Potato Famine--conveyed as lyrical narrative history from the acclaimed author of The Great MortalityIn this masterful, comprehensive account of the Irish Potato Famine, delivered with novelistic flair, Kelly gives us not only the startling facts of this disaster--one of the worst to strike mankind, killing twice as many lives as the American Civil War--but examines the intersection of political greed, bacterial infection, religious intolerance, and racism that made it possible. Kelly brings new material to his analysis of relevant political factors during the years leading up to the famine, and the extent to which Britain's nation-building policies exacerbated the mounting crisis. Despite the shocking, infuriating implications of his findings, The Graves Are Walking is ultimately a story of triumph--of one people's ability to remake themselves in a new land in the face of the unthinkable.

Sorry Mum.Q) Have you always wanted to be a writer?A) I have harboured the ambition to write a novel, since my mid-30s, which coincidentally is when I had my first mid-life crisis. But life and all its distractions got in the way, until now when I have started to get my shit together. Which is probably a good thing seeing as I’m now 48 years old.Q) What do you hope to achieve with your book.A) I want to entertain the reader, make them smile and hopefully laugh out loud too. As well as talk about issues that are normally hidden beneath the surface of modern life. Such as mental illness, mid-life crisis, the inner workings of a male, middle-aged mind and throwing in how a man copes with all this, whilst trying to keep things together as well as have a relationship on top of that. Q) Why Mid Life Backpacker?A) John is middle-aged and I wanted to explore all the themes above in the context of John travelling to different places. Plus, I wanted to use my own experiences of the places I have visited and hopefully in due course, get some money back to pay for them. Along the way, I hope the readers will also find out a bit about the places John Dot visits too.Q) So, this is the first of many books then?A) Yes, the next book, based on Thailand is due to be released Tuesday 12 September 2017 and I have several more books planned.Q) Are you, John Dot, then?A) Ok, that’s a stupid question, from a stupid interviewer. John Dot is fictitious. My agent warned you before the interview if you raised that question, then the interview will end. Q) I’m sorry, John, I mean Kevin, please come back and finish the interview. Please, I promise not to ask the question again.Scroll back up and download The Travel Diaries of John Dot: Margate today to see if John gets lucky!
