The USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at Karolyi Ranch or simply Karolyi Ranch was the national training center for the United States women's national gymnastics team. In 1983, following his defection to the U.S., Béla Károlyi purchased 40 acres of the Sam Houston National Forest, where the camp is located. A year later, gymnastics facilities and cabins were built and the ranch was open for summer camp. From 1986-89, the Karolyi's property expanded enormously to 2,000 acres. The camp portion of the property is around 36 acres. In 2001, the ranch was designated as the U.S. Women's National Gymnastics Training Center.
In 2011, the Karolyi Ranch was recognized as a U.S. Olympic Training Site by the United States Olympic Committee.Facilities
The ranch has a state of the art women's artistic gymnastics facility as well as a dance room, medical room, office, rhythmic gym, trampoline and tumble gym and a sports acro gym. It also has athletes and coaches cabins, dining halls, meeting rooms, TV room and a cafeteria.National Team camps
National Team camps for the women's artistic program are held once a month at the Ranch. Gymnasts invited are National Team members as well as current elite gymnasts that the selectors deem to be good enough. The USA Gymnastics Women's national team is the team that represents the United States in international competitions such as the Olympics and World Championships. Since its foundation in 1982, the team has won three Olympic golds (1996, 2012, and 2016), three Olympic silvers (1984, 2004, and 2008), and two Olympic bronze (1992 and 2000). Márta Károlyi retired from the role of National Team Coordinator in 2016. While USA Gymnastics previously entered into an agreement to purchase the gymnastics facilities at the ranch, it has not closed on that transaction.References
