Ex-FBI agent missing for 13 years died in Iran custody, family says
A former FBI agent who mysteriously vanished in 2007 died in Iranian custody, his family concluded Wednesday, saying US intelligence had led them to give up 13 years of hope. President Donald Trump did not confirm Bob Levinson's death, saying that Iran had not communicated any news on the former agent who would have turned 72 this month. 'We recently received information from US officials that has led both them and us to conclude that our wonderful husband and father died while in Iranian custody,' the family said in a statement.

The former FBI agent Bob Levinson, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 2007, has died in Iranian custody, his family said Wednesday. 'We recently received information from US officials that has led both them and us to conclude that our wonderful husband and father died while in Iranian custody,' said a statement from Levinson's family. It added that it was unsure when or how he died, but that it was before the coronavirus pandemic that has hit Iran hard.

Iran implicitly denied Thursday that a missing former FBI agent had died in its custody as his family claims, restating its longstanding position that he left the Islamic republic 'years ago'. US President Donald Trump did not confirm Bob Levinson's death, saying that Iran had not communicated any news on the former agent, who has been missing since 2007 and would have turned 72 this month. 'Based on credible evidence, (Levinson) left Iran years ago for an unknown destination,' foreign ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said in a statement.

Iran said on Thursday it had 'no knowledge' of the whereabouts of a former FBI agent missing since 2007, after his family said he had died in Iranian custody. US President Donald Trump did not confirm Bob Levinson's death, saying that Iran had not communicated any news on the former agent, who would have turned 72 this month. 'Iran has always maintained that its officials have no knowledge of Mr. Levinson's whereabouts, and that he is not in Iranian custody,' said Alireza Miryousefi, chief press officer at Iran's mission to the United Nations.
