Contents Early life

Emmanuel Gazme Santiago was born on November 26, 1992 in Carolina, Puerto Rico.[1]

Anuel AA started his music career in 2010. He is noted for laying "the foundation for the new era of Latin trap." In 2012, Anuel AA caught the attention of Rick Ross and French Montana. In 2016, Anuel released his mixtape Real Hasta La Muerte.[2]

Anuel AA was arrested and held in the Metropolitan Detention Center, Guaynabo on April 3, 2016 with three companions when police found three pistols including one stolen, nine clips, and 152 bullets. He was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for gun possession charges. Anuel AA stated that the lyrics in his music do not represent his true character. The presiding judge Aida Delgado-Colon said she had never head any of his songs.[3] Anuel AA spent 90 days in solitary confinement due to a prison incident. During this time, he told Billboard that "I kept listening to the radio, listening to what was happening in the streets, I would write."[4] In April 2018, Anuel AA was featured along with Future and Bad Bunny on the single "Thinkin" by Spiff TV.[5] He is also featured in the remix of Bad Bunny's single "Tu No Metes Cabra."[6]

While staying at a halfway house for a month in Miami, Anuel AA recorded 22 songs in seven days for his debut album Real Hasta la Muerte. He was not able to hear the album before its release because he was still incarcerated.[4] He was released from jail on July 17, 2018.[2] It contains 12 tracks.[6]

Anuel AA has been criticized because his music frequently contains sexually explicit and violent lyrics.[2]

Personal life

Anuel AA has a son.[3] While he was able to speak on the phone and see pictures of his son while in prison, he was not permitted to visit in person.[4]
